Episode 158: A Mini-MBA on EOS with Mike Urness
In this episode, I sit down with my longtime colleague and EOS Implementer Mike Urness for a practical walk-through of the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)—a framework that helps leaders run their organizations with clarity and consistency.
We unpack the six key components of EOS, focusing on the Vision section and its eight questions: core values, core focus, long-term target, marketing strategy, 3-year picture, 1-year plan, 90-day rocks, and issues. Mike explains how to identify true core values using the “who would we clone?” exercise and how to use the People Analyzer to ensure the right people are in the right seats.
He also shares how leaders can simplify strategy and communication by defining their core focus, clarifying their target audience, and naming their three uniques. We explore tools like GWC (Get it, Want it, Capacity), Delegate & Elevate to remove busywork, and the quarterly conversation that replaces traditional performance reviews.
Mike closes with two powerful reminders every leader needs: simplify and align.
