Episode 14: Reactive vs. Responsive Leadership with Benjamin McLain
In this episode, I speak with Benjamin McLain, Vice President of Operations at the Springfield Clinic in Illinois. This episode brings incredible insights from a 25-year veteran of senior healthcare leadership.
Truly a servant leader, Benjamin explains some of the ways he runs his organization of over 650 doctors throughout central Illinois. He talks about three major questions he asks to bring people together: “What are we doing well?” “What can we do better?” “What can we do more of?”
He talks about three items that have driven his leadership: listening well, hearing needs, and having the humility to do what he calls a “co-creation” type of leadership.
We discuss the importance of improving communication to be able to think at a higher and more mature level and be the person who can drive performance from a servant leadership aspect. Finally, he talks about being a responsive leader as opposed to being reactive.
Thank you Benjamin for leading your organization so well.
