Healthcare Leadership Excellence

Episode 9: Leading Through Crisis and Change with Dr. Marty Brueggemann

Karl Pister Season 1 Episode 9

In this episode, I talk with Dr. Marty Brueggemann, Chief Medical Officer of Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, about his challenges and life lessons as a leader of change and crisis management.

He shares his own experiences connecting with his people. A common theme throughout this episode is of taking the time to listen, acknowledging what your people do, and weaving it into great organizational work.

He also discusses an imperative lesson of staying calm in crisis situations, focusing only on what one has control over, and not letting ‘missiles’ distract you from your purpose. In times of ordeal, he suggests two questions to ask: “what can I control?” and “what can’t I?”.

Dr. Brueggeman, thank you for sharing your inspiring stories of leadership and the core principles that guided you to become one of the best healthcare leaders out there.
